The BBC has officially confirmed that the iconic competitive show Gladiators will return for a new series in 2023.
The show - which saw contestants go toe to toe with a team of superhuman athletes in a series of athletic challenges - was a staple of ITV's Saturday night schedules through the 1990s.
Earlier this month it emerged that the BBC was in talks about commissioning a reboot and now those plans have been formally announced, with an 11-episode new series slated to air next year.
"Gladiators is back and a whole new generation of viewers can now look forward to watching a Saturday night spectacle like no other," said Kate Phillips, the BBC's director of unscripted.
"Will the contenders have the will and the skill to succeed against our mighty new Gladiators? You'll have to tune in to find out!"
The show will be filmed at Sheffield's Utilita Arena early in 2023 for broadcast on BBC One later in the year. body check tags ::
