The BBC has commissioned a new Scottish drama with an all-star cast including Martin Compston, Ashley Jensen and Tony Curran.
Called Mayflies, the show follows childhood friends Tully (Curran) and Jimmy (Compston) who are confronted by a decision born of tragedy that will test their relationship to its limit.
The two-parter is an adaptation of the acclaimed Andrew O'Hagan novel and is described as "a memorial to youth's euphoria and to everyday tragedy".
Gaynor Holmes, commissioning editor at BBC Drama, said: "Mayflies is an intimate and devastating portrait of male friendship that manages to be both life-affirming and heartbreaking, and we're delighted to have assembled an outstanding lead cast and creative team to bring it from page to screen."
Filming will take place this autumn for an expected broadcast on BBC One in 2023.
