New reality show The Traitors is reportedly handed BBC One's key 9pm slot for three nights a week.

The BBC has reportedly decided to give a huge vote of confidence in new reality show The Traitors by handing it the key 9pm slot on BBC One three nights a week.

The show - hosted by Claudia Winkleman - is based on a Dutch format and sees a group of contestants working to build up a cash prize pot while trying to figure out which three members of their team are secretly sabotaging their efforts.

According to Broadcast, the 12-episode first series will go out at 9pm three nights a week for four weeks when it begins, which is expected to be in the New Year.

The publication also says that the BBC has come up with "an innovative iPlayer release plan to go alongside it, with more details to follow".

The first series was filmed in the Scottish Highlands earlier this year, and executives are said to have been so impressed with the format that they have already begun making plans for a second series.
