Virginia Giuffre, who accused the late Jeffrey Epstein of sex trafficking her to Prince Andrew, has died by suicide at the age of 41.
In a now-infamous Newsnight interview in 2019 - months after Epstein died, apparently by suicide, while in jail awaiting trial - Andrew denied knowledge of meeting Giuffre, who alleged that Epstein had paid her to have sex with him when she was aged 17.
Giuffre launched a civil suit against Andrew in New York but the pair agreed an out-of-court settlement for an undisclosed sum in February 2022.
Police confirmed the death of a 41-year-old woman at her farm in Neergabby, Western Australia on Friday evening in non-suspicious circumstances.
A statement from her family read: "It is with utterly broken hearts that we announce that Virginia passed away last night at her farm in Western Australia.
"She lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.
"Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking. She was the light that lifted so many survivors.
"In the end, the toll of abuse is so heavy that it became unbearable for Virginia to handle its weight."
Giuffre is survived by her three children Christian, Noah and Emily.
