Meghan Markle discusses her 'liberation' from what she describes as the "construct" of the Royal institutions in the latest clip from her interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Together with her husband Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex has filmed a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in which they will explain why they chose to step down as senior Royals and leave the UK in 2020.
In the latest clip from the interview - due to air Sunday night in the US and Monday night in the UK - Markle recalls having had to previously turn down an interview request from Winfrey in 2018 due to Royal protocols.
Asked by Winfrey what had changed in the three years since, Markle replied: "Well, so many things. That we're on the other side of a lot of life experience that's happened.
"And also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn't have said yes to you then. That wasn't my choice to make.
"So, as an adult who lived a really independent life to then go into this construct that's different than I think what people imagine it to be, it's really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to say yes.
"I'm ready to talk. To be able to just make a choice on your own. And to be able to speak for yourself."
The interview will be broadcast just days after Buckingham Palace confirmed that it would be launching an investigation into serious allegations of bullying against Markle from former Royal aides.
