Veteran entertainer Lionel Blair has been given his first dose of the coronavirus vaccine just a few days after celebrating his 92nd birthday.

The UK became the first country in the world to start administering the Pfizer vaccine last week, with members of the population aged over 80 and those working in the NHS and care settings among the first to receive the potentially life-saving injection.

In pictures released to the media today, Blair - former host of Name That Tune - was pictured joyously receiving the first of two injections required as part of the vaccination process.

The legendary star, who turned 92 on Saturday, had his jab at a pop-up NHS vaccine centre which has been set up at the Epsom horse racing course in Surrey.

The government announced on Wednesday that more than 137,000 people received the vaccine in the first week of rollout - and plans are in place to increase the rate to millions a week in the first few months of 2021.
