New streaming service Paramount+ is reportedly looking at greenlighting a revival of Frasier, 17 years after the long-running comedy's final episode.

A revival of the classic sitcom Frasier is reportedly under consideration for the new streaming service Paramount+.

The Cheers spinoff followed Kelsey Grammer's Dr Frasier Crane as he relocated to Seattle and began a new career as a radio talkshow host.

The show - paired for much of its run with Friends - aired for 11 seasons between 1993 and 2004, drawing in over 25 million viewers at its peak.

Talk of a revival first emerged in 2019 and according to TV Line, the possibility is now becoming more real as Paramount looks for flagship series for the Paramount+ service, which launches next month.

The publication says that in addition to Grammer, producers hope to convince original cast members David Hyde Pierce (Niles), Jane Leeves (Daphne) and Peri Gilpin (Roz) to be "involved in some capacity".

John Mahoney, who played Frasier and Niles's father Martin Crane, died at the age of 77 in 2018 following a battle with throat cancer.

Should the project get the go-ahead, there are supposedly expectations that filming could begin as soon as this summer.

Having first appeared as Frasier in 1984, Grammer holds the joint record for playing the same character on primetime TV for 20 consecutive years.
