Debbie McGee has denied bizarre speculation that she keeps the head of her late husband Paul Daniels in a jar.

The comedy magician died at the age of 77 in 2016 - a month after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Daniels's widow McGee, 61, appeared on Thursday's edition of The One Show in a video message, after which some viewers took to Twitter to claim that they had been distracted by what appeared to be the head of her husband in a jar behind her.

Speaking to the Daily Star, McGee said that she had found the comments funny but explained that it was just an illusion caused by her propping a photo of Daniels up against a glass ornament.

"I think he was there with me in spirit for the interview," she joked.

"He would think it is wonderful. We [friends and family] have had a a giggle about it.

"It isn't normally there, I moved it to clean. I looked at it afterwards and I can see what they mean.

"I just think it was Paul's way of letting us all know he is looking over us!"

McGee met Daniels in 1979 when she got the job as his magician's assistant and they went on to form a partnership on and off stage that lasted almost four decades.
