Bertie Garratt, nephew of the late broadcasting legend Des O'Connor, is supposedly in the running to take part in this year's Love Island.

The 23-year-old is a familiar face to ITV2 viewers as he appeared on dating show The Cabins earlier this year, where he coupled up with - but subsequently split up from - a beautician called Annabelle.

Garratt, who runs a painting and decorating business called The Brush Brothers, told the Daily Star that he is talking to Love Island producers about flying to Mallorca this summer but may be tempted to appear on a rival show.

"Yeah, we are about to finish the application this week that they've asked me to do, some kind of phone call thing now, but I am looking at going on a different TV programme, which in my eyes is just as good," he said.

"There are a couple I'm going through the admin side of things at the minute and I'm just currently debating which one I'm going to do."

He added: "For me, I feel like Love Island, a lot of people had negative experiences from being on there so I think I might avoid it as it's people that I'm quite close to."

The new series of Love Island is expected to begin on ITV2 in June.
