Former Emmerdale actress Sophie Bowles has said that she was "really grateful" to make a brief comeback to the show as Holly Barton for a "powerful" episode.

Holly was the daughter of Moira (Natalie J Robb) who died eight years ago from a drugs overdose - and was discovered dead in her bed by her mother.

In today's episode, Moira went under the knife to have a brain tumour removed, and while she was under sedation she interacted with Holly in a dream sequence.

"I was really happy to come back," said Bowles, who first appeared in the soap in 2009. "Being a part of Emmerdale was just the best experience.

"I genuinely made friends for life in the cast and crew, learnt so much and have the best memories. So really grateful to come back and work with friends again on a show I love so much."

Discussing the Moira brain tumour storyline, she continued: "Natalie is just the most incredible actress. She puts her heart and soul into every storyline.

"She researches everything to give the most authentic experience. What I've seen has been so heartbreaking and obviously brilliant."

Emmerdale continues weekdays from 7am on ITVX and at 7.30pm on ITV1. body check tags ::
