EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw has suggested that Danny Dyer's Mick Carter will have a "tragic" exit from the soap.

Mick, as well as his girlfriend Janine (Charlie Brooks), are leaving Walford over the festive period, although it is still unknown whether the characters will leave together - or even if one, or both of them, will be killed off.

Recent paparazzi pictures showed scenes being filmed on a clifftop, with Janine and Mick's ex-wife Linda (Kellie Bright) appearing to drive over the edge and a distraught Mick jumping off the cliff.

Talking about the storyline, Clenshaw told Inside Soap: "It's Mick's last Christmas – and it's pretty epic. Do people want Mick and Janine to go off into the sunset, though? Well, you'll have to wait and see.

"I hope the audience will be pleased. All I'll say is that it is a tragic love story. A lot happens when Mick leaves. The Vic is the beating heart of Walford – it's a character in its own right – so who we have in that precinct is important."

He added: "Rest assured, there are plans afoot to make sure the community doesn't die of thirst!"
