The BBC has confirmed that it will continue to release EastEnders as weekly boxsets on iPlayer until the end of the Olympics next month.

Due to the scheduling chaos caused by Euro 2020, all four weekly episodes have been made available for streaming from 6am on Monday mornings via iPlayer.

Ratings for the soap's traditional linear TV broadcasts have fallen to record lows in recent weeks, although that is thought to have been more than offset by on-demand viewing, with more than 20 million streams recorded over the last three weeks.

Now the BBC has opted to continue the practice until at least the end of the Tokyo Olympics on August 8.

Jon Sen, executive producer of EastEnders, said: "We're so glad that the audience has enjoyed getting ahead of the game - keeping up with Albert Square on iPlayer whilst enjoying the Euros, so we're carrying on releasing the week's episodes on Monday throughout Tokyo 2020.

"There's enough happening in Walford this summer to keep everyone on the edge of their seats and we're thrilled audiences won't need to miss out on anything – starting with the match this Saturday!"

Next week's episodes of the soap will celebrate Euro 2020 with a special appearance from legendary football manager Harry Redknapp.
