Filming has officially begun on the 14th season of Doctor Who in Cardiff, the first full-length season with Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor.

David Tennant has taken over from Jodie Whittaker as the Fourteenth Doctor and will be seen in three special episodes next November, before Gatwa succeeds him as the Fifteenth.

Gatwa will then go on to appear in a brand new season, due to air in early 2024, with former Coronation Street actress Millie Gibson joining him as new companion Ruby Sunday.

Posts on the official Doctor Who Twitter account revealed that the pair started work on Monday, with Dylan Holmes Williams confirmed as the director of the first episode.

Meanwhile, returning exec producer Russell T Davies offered a tease on his Instagram account, writing: "FILMING BEGINS on the next season! So many mysteries to come. Who is the X? What is the Y? And what the hell is the spinning Z?!? You'll find out! On BBC One, BBC iPlayer and Disney+."

The new season will also be the first to be released around the world - excluding the UK - via Disney+ after the streamer reached a deal with the BBC to provide significant funding for the show.
