Coronation Street legend Ken Barlow will reportedly need the services of a carer as part of an upcoming storyline.

The character - played by Bill Roache, 92, and on the cobbles since the first ever episode in 1960 - will supposedly fall down the stairs and suffer an injury that renders him immobile.

"Ken has always been sprightly, so for this to happen to him is heartbreaking," a source told The Sun.

"He's always been known as a bit of a ladies man and has had so many love interests over the years. It's going to knock the wind out of him.

"Bosses are also hoping it will highlight the plight of older people and the care they need from family members when something like this happens...

"Bill will spend a lot of time laid up over the next few months as Ken struggles to get over his fall."

The storyline will not be the first time that Ken has found himself at the bottom of the stairs at No.1, having previously been pushed down them by his own son Daniel (Rob Mallard) in 2017.
