Sky has confirmed plans to launch a new streaming device later this year based on the 'Puck' element of the Sky Glass product.

Launched late last year, Sky Glass allows customers to receive a service from Sky without the need for a satellite dish by instead purchasing a Sky-branded TV which connects to the internet to receive streamed TV channels.

The service also has an add-on called the 'Puck' - similar to Sky Q's miniboxes - which provide access to the Sky Glass service on additional, non-Sky TVs in other rooms of the home.

Now Sky has announced plans for Sky Stream, a new service that will essentially provide the Sky Glass experience without the need to buy a specific TV due to the use of a Puck-style device.

A spokesperson for the broadcaster said: "The puck is a quick and easy way to enjoy most of the Sky Glass experience. All customers have to do is plug it in and play. You can stream every channel, show and app over WiFi, without a dish."

Pricing details, as well as a launch date, for Sky Stream have yet to be revealed. body check tags ::
