Sky News has announced details of a new series of in-person events named Big Ideas Live.

The conference-style initiative will bring together business leaders, industry experts and politicians to "brainstorm" potential solutions and ideas relating to major issues affecting society.

The first event is titled 'How to fire up UK business & the economy in the wake of the pandemic' and will be held in Rotherham, South Yorkshire next Tuesday, October 12.

Sky News presenters will preside over the various sessions and debates, with coverage being streamed online and periodically throughout the day on the channel itself.

"Sky News has proven through the past 18 months that we provide a vital public service to make the critical topics of our day accessible and relatable to our viewers," said channel head John Ryley.

"This is an ambitious next step to take Sky News' specialists live into communities around the country and examine some very big ideas.

"Our Business and Economics Specialists and Data journalists are the among the best in the business, so this first topic was an obvious choice.

"Big Ideas Live will step away from rolling news and instead create a format to break down the important issues of our time, starting with reigniting UK business and the economy."

Guests at the inaugural event will include Mark Carney, the former Governor of the Bank of England; Carl Ennis, chief exec of Siemens UK; and Magid Magid, former Sheffield mayor turned climate activist.
