CNN's new streaming service CNN+ is to close at the end of the month, just weeks after launching.

CNN's new digital streaming service CNN+ is to shut down just a month after it went live in the US.

First announced last summer, the subscription service finally launched on March 28 with original programming and a staff of around 500, although many of those also work on CNN itself.

The service will close on April 30, the company have announced - just days after owner WarnerMedia's merger with Discovery.

In a message to staff, new chairman and CEO Chris Licht explained: "This is not a decision about quality; we appreciate all of the work, ambition and creativity that went into building CNN+, an organization with terrific talent and compelling programming. But our customers and CNN will be best served with a simpler streaming choice."

The move suggests that some elements of the CNN+ offering could be integrated into WarnerBros Discovery's plans for a new service which will consolidate content from HBO Max and discovery+.
