The BBC has revealed the first tranche of programmes and events in store for 2022 as the corporation celebrates its 100th birthday.
Known as 'BBC 100', the celebrations will span the entire year - signifying a century since the broadcaster was founded on October 18, 1922.
The centrepiece will be coverage of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, while live sporting events will include the Women's Euros in England, the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the World Cup in Qatar.
Special editions of the BBC's biggest shows are planned, including The Apprentice, Top Gear, Strictly Come Dancing, MasterChef and Antiques Roadshow, all of which will "be marking the centenary in their own unique way".
New commissions include The Love Box In Your Living Room, a comedic look at the BBC's history with Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse; David Dimbleby's BBC: A Very British History, a three-part documentary tracing the BBC's impact on British life; Here's One I Made Earlier, a special programme with Konnie Huq exploring the BBC's children's programming over the years; and for CBBC, a special BBC-themed edition of Horrible Histories.
"Our centenary year will be a huge treat for audiences of all ages from massive sporting events, comedy, entertainment, drama, arts and music, to documentaries assessing all aspects of the BBC's history," said Charlotte Moore, the BBC's chief content officer.
"BBC 100 will celebrate and reflect on the unique role the BBC plays in the lives of audiences across the UK as our much cherished national broadcaster from its creation right up to the present day."
BBC 100 will also include the restoration of BBC Three as a linear TV channel - expected to come at some point in January. body check tags ::
