The BBC is launching a pop-up channel on iPlayer dedicated to additional coverage of the World Cup.

Called World Cup Extra, the channel will stream live every day during the tournament in Qatar with pre and post-match coverage, alternative game commentary from 5 Live and special documentaries.

Every BBC-broadcast game will also be available in full Ultra HD and HDR quality for viewers with appropriately-enabled devices.

Dan McGolpin, director of BBC iPlayer, said: "More and more people are going to BBC iPlayer for the biggest TV moments and enjoying the extra benefits that you get there, for the World Cup that means additional coverage before and after the big matches, alternative commentary from 5Live and every match live streamed in Ultra High Definition and High Dynamic Range.

The World Cup starts tomorrow with hosts Qatar taking on Ecuador.
