The BBC has denied a report that it has spent "tens of thousands" of pounds on making a minor alteration to its standard logo.

The new version of the logo - due to be rolled out on air this autumn - still uses the customised 'BBC Reith' font but with a reduced font size for each of the three letters, while there is additional white space between each of the three blocks.

According to The Sun, the cost of the minor cosmetic change is "thought to run into tens of thousands of pounds".

Commenting on the article, a BBC spokesperson said: "We are using our own font - which we own the intellectual rights to - when we update content or BBC products.

"It would be wrong to suggest the costs of the design of the blocks was significant."

The reason for the logo refresh, which is likely to necessitate changes to graphics, signage and stationery, is unclear. body check tags ::
